Our Physiotherapist, Lara Flood

Lara graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc Honours in Physiotherapy in 2018 and completed her community service year in Mokopane, Limpopo in 2019. She then returned to Johannesburg, to work in private practice. Additional courses that she has completed include dry needling and strapping.

Lara treats a wide range of conditions, with a special interest in sports injuries and nerve-related conditions. She treats with a hands-on approach, using a combination of manual soft tissue therapy, dry needling, joint mobilizations, neural mobilizations and rehabilitation exercises in her sessions.

Outside of work, she is a keen triathlete, training for half and full Ironman triathlons. Growing up, she participated in a variety of sports including gymnastics, horse riding, ballet, swimming, athletics, and netball. This broad sporting background gives her a strong understanding of the physical demands of sport, the athlete mindset, and the frustration that comes with injury.

Lara’s Physiotherapy Services

Neuromusculoskeletal injuries affect the nerves, muscles, joints, bones, and the way they work together to produce movement. These injuries often cause pain, stiffness, weakness, tingling, or reduced range of movement, and they can impact anything from daily activities to sport and exercise.

Examples of conditions treated (but not limited to) are:

  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Back pain, disc herniations
  • Sciatica and other nerve related pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow
  • Knee pain (runner’s knee, patellofemoral pain, ligament injuries)
  • Ankle sprains
  • Achilles tendon injuries
  • Shin splints
  • Plantar fasciitis / heel pain

Physiotherapy for these injuries focuses on identifying the root cause of the problem, not just the painful area. Treatment aims to reduce pain, restore movement, improve strength and control, and help you understand how to manage your condition so you can return to moving with confidence and reduce the risk of future injury.

Post-operative physiotherapy is care that you receive after surgery to help your body recover safely, regain strength and restore movement. Surgery can fix a problem, but muscles, joints, and nerves often need guided rehabilitation to return to full function.

Physiotherapy after an operation helps you:

  • Reduce pain and swelling
  • Regain strength, flexibility, and coordination
  • Improve balance and movement patterns
  • Recover safely and efficiently, whether for daily activities, work, or sport
  • Learn how to care for your body and prevent future problems

During these sessions, Lara will assess your specific needs, track your progress, and guide you step by step, ensuring your recovery is safe, effective, and empowering. The goal is not just healing, but helping you get back to the activities and lifestyle that you love, as quickly and safely as possible.

Lara offers home based physiotherapy sessions to those based in the Fourways, Bryanston and surrounding areas.
