As we return to our work stations, we return to the stress and pressures of working an eight hour day. Perhaps you had a break during the December period? No headaches or neck pain… yet now that you have returned to work it has all started again.

Why?

It is not just the pressure of the work needing to be done but very often the posture and position that your skeletal system has to endure for hours on end again.

Is your work station set up ergonomically correct? Is the height of your desk and chair correct? If the answer is a possible no, then this may be the cause of your neck pain and headaches.

If the skeletal system is put in an incorrect position for extended periods of time, this can cause a repetitive overuse strain which causes the muscles to react by pulling into spasm. As the muscles are attached to the bones, they may cause the bones to pull out of neutral alignment and this then causes a pain – muscle spasm cycle.

This may be the cause of your headaches and neck pain.

It is therefore very important to assess what position and posture you are exposing your skeletal system to. A physiotherapist with a special interest in this field will be able to treat your headaches and neck pain and give you correct advice on the correct ergonomic workstation set up.

Make 2016 the year for a healthy, happy neck and back!
