Exercise has been shown to have many worthwhile benefits. Some are obvious and widely known, such as good cardiovascular health and weight management. Most people seem to know about these, but a surprisingly advantageous benefit is stress relief!
Stress is one of the biggest issues of the modern lifestyle. Exercise has proven to be an excellent stress reliever as it increases the chemical norepinephrine which can moderate the brains response to stress. This, teamed with the release of the ‘happy, feel good’ endorphins is a win-win. You get the feelings of happiness and euphoria and an instant stress reliever with as little as 30 mins of moderate activity a few times a week. Don’t feel like a sweating it out in the gym? Maybe a quick walk around a park during your lunch break is a better option for you, or taking the stairs instead of the lift? What about not taking the closest parking to the shopping centre entrance? There are many ways to slightly modify your everyday habits that will result in a happier, healthier you.
Getting friends and family involved is an excellent idea too. Make a habit of doing something energetic together on weekends. Enjoy the outdoors a little more with a jog or cycle. So you will not only gain a bit of relief from any anxiety over the past week’s events, but you’ll get a self-esteem boost, a little mood lifter, improved sleep quality and better energy levels. Research also shows that physical activity can have the added benefits of a lower risk of many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, Type II diabetes, strokes, and some cancers.
